Highlights from the British Cycling Annual Awards 2024

The British Cycling Annual Awards Ceremony 2024, sponsored by Lloyds, took place on Saturday, October 26th. The event took place at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. This prestigious event celebrated the achievements and contributions of individuals in the cycling community, highlighting excellence in various categories and fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants. The venue provided an elegant backdrop for an evening dedicated to recognising and honouring the dedication and talent within British Cycling.

Personally, I had the opportunity to invite up to five guests to the daytime awards ceremony, where complimentary tea, coffee, and cupcakes were served. I chose to bring my partner and my parents, whose support made the day even more special when Matthew Robertson presented my award. Simon from SWpix captured the moment as he snapped a photo of us on stage with my certificate.

As the evening event approached, my partner and I were filled with anticipation. We bid farewell to my parents, unsure of what to expect. We had heard about the red carpet and the live outdoor BMX performance, and we couldn’t wait to experience it all.

The evening began with photos featuring Blaine Hunt conducting interviews in a dashing suit. After that, we enjoyed a drinks reception with a live DJ in the Leigh Day suite. You couldn’t miss the Hope x Lotus Team GB Track Bike from the Paris Olympics on display as you entered. Guests could check the seating arrangements on a large screen, ensuring everyone knew where to settle in.

As the room filled with enthusiastic attendees, it was impossible to overlook the presence of cycling legends like Dame Laura Kenny and Dani Rowe MBE, who were among the mingling crowd. Chatting with event organisers, commissaries, and more racers was fun, especially when everyone was dressed up.

We received an announcement to take our seats for the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony. The event was hosted by Rebecca Charlton and Sanny Rudravajhala, well-known TV presenters from Sky and Eurosport. It was inspiring to see the nominees being recognised for the Hall of Fame, alongside clubs and volunteers who are the foundation of the sport. The evening concluded with live music from a band called Brassienda.

As we were leaving, we were handed a KitBrix Luminous Snap Band. These cool bands are incredibly useful for visibility in the dark, making night time adventures much safer. They ensure you can be seen whether you’re jogging, biking, or simply enjoying an evening stroll. Link here KitBrix
